Gamba cookbook.
Book design, content, copy and art direction.
Gamba has been part of the Glasgow restaurant scene for over 18 years, famous for its classic approach to cooking fresh fish and seafood.
As popular with its regulars as it is with newcomers and visitors to the city, Derek Marshall’s venue has stood the test of time. To celebrate this fact and his love of seafood, Derek wanted to produce a cookbook that truly showcased the food and the venue where he brings the dishes to life.
Striking a balance between design and practicality is essential for a cookbook. The layout allows the photography to shine through while also delivering interesting and easy-to-follow recipes.
It was important to represent not only the food but a little of what makes Gamba so unique. The book focuses on the ingredients and recipes, but the reportage photography allows a glimpse behind the scenes of the kitchen and helps to capture the atmosphere of the venue.
The book was a labour of love for the Sevenfive and photographer Mark K. Seager, who spent months with the Gamba team shooting the restaurant, kitchen and the dishes themselves.
Client input was essential to the process. With recipes, cooking methods and imagery being developed as the project progressed.
The result is a beautiful testimony to a passion for fish, seafood and the love of cooking.
